Wieß

Nottingham, UK 2017

Weiß is an eco-conscious toothbrush designed to reduce plastic waste by 80%. This was a project untertaken during my undergraduate Product Design degree at Nottingham Trent University.

Weiß featured a detachable and replaceable head, and silicon bristles selected for superior hygeine and longevity compared to traditional nylon. It included an ergonomic hook with a suction cup for hygienic storage and effortless head replacement, and was delivered in a compact box for ease of travel and storage.

My Role Designer, Technical Designer & Maker

The Project

Weiß was conceived with a commitment to sustainability and precision design. The process began with extensive market research and user feedback, allowing us to refine our understanding of consumer needs and environmental concerns.

Prototyping played a critical role in the development. We began with hand-carving and rapid prototyping, followed by CAD modelling to fine-tune every detail. This iterative approach enabled us to create a toothbrush that not only looks and feels great but also functions optimally.

To ensure the highest quality, we focused on precision manufacturing techniques. The detachable and replaceable head was a key innovation, allowing us to reduce plastic waste by 80%. Each toothbrush is designed to be durable, with silicon bristles that are more hygienic and longer-lasting than traditional nylon.
