Belfast, Derry & Cambridge, 2022-23
'Our Place in Space' was a visionary public art project created by renowned children's author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers. The installation spanned a 10-kilometre-long sculpture trail, combining art, science, and technology to depict our solar system at scale.
The project blended artistic storytelling with precise structural requirements, offering an engaging journey through our universe.
My Role Technical Designer, Project Managing & Installation Supervising
The Project
I contributed extensively to the design and technical planning of the project, from detailed drawings to material selection and fabrication processes. Collaborating closely with a structural engineer, I developed laser-cut files and resolved challenges to ensure structural integrity and efficient assembly. I also created a systematic breakdown of each arch and produced a comprehensive build manual, guiding the assembly process from start to finish.
I managed the installation process, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure the precise placement of the sculptures along the trail. This included conducting an on-site test build and returning to oversee the first full installation, ensuring that all elements met design specifications and structural requirements.
